The Chicano Photographer Collection

Archives in Santa Barbara to Houston have asked to be the repository for this unique collection of documentary photographs. These images captured by Jesús Manuel Mena Garza illuminate the Chicano experience during the turbulent 1970s.

One thing is certain, you can't go back to the 70s (forty years ago) and take pictures of United Farm Workers President César E. Chávez and Crusade For Justice Founder Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales. That's what makes this photographic series so valuable.

Select images from the collection have been published in magazines, books and exhibited in numerous galleries and museums from coast to coast. The Chicano Photographer Collection also includes images exploring the people and architecture of Arizona, New Mexico, Florida and Mexico.
