Jesús Manuel Mena Garza Photography & Video
Jesús Garza is a documentary photographer currently residing in Fort Worth, Texas. Originally from San José, California, Garza has captured intimate photographs of his community and his travels for more than five decades. Several of Garza's photos have coalesced in an archive titled, Imágenes Xicano.
Select images from this archive form Garza's traveling exhibition Chicano Photographer. Photos from this series and others have been published in books, posters and magazines. Garza's photographs are in the collection of the prestigious Smithsonian Institution.
He has exhibited and lectured about his documentary photographs from coast to coast. Venues range from the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington D. C. (for the Smithsonian), University of California at Berkeley, University of Redlands, Saint Mary's College of Maryland, University of North Texas, San Bernardino County Museum, San José State University and others.
More recently, the photographer has been asked to exhibit internationally. From Mexico City's El Museo Universitario Arte Conemporáneo (MUAC) de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México to Le Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux, France. See Garza's Curriculum Vitae.
From the beginning for the San José Museum of Art in 1974 to the present for Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino, Jesús Garza has been asked to talk about and exhibit his photographs, participate on panels, teach workshops and university classes
